How to Pop a Pimple (If You Must)

We know, we know—dermatologists say never pop a pimple. But we also know you're going to do it anyway. If you must, here is the safest way to do it.
The Golden Rule
Only pop a pimple that has a visible white head. If it's red, underground, or painful—DO NOT TOUCH IT.
The Steps
- Wash your hands and face: Cleanliness is key to preventing infection.
- Warm Compress: Apply a warm cloth for a few minutes to soften the skin.
- Sterilize a Needle: Use rubbing alcohol on a needle and gently prick the very top of the whitehead.
- Use Cotton Swabs: Don't use your fingers. Use two cotton swabs to gently press on the sides of the pimple.
- Stop immediately if clear fluid or blood comes out.
- Aftercare: Apply a pimple patch or a spot treatment immediately.
